Explanatory Notes on Main Statistical Indicators
Total Population, that is, at a certain point of time(end-year
or mid-year),those pertaining to the size, geographical distribution and
demographic characteristics of the population. Data for countries or areas
include population census figures, estimates based on results of sample surveys(in the absence of a census), postcensal
or intercensal estimates and those derived from
continuous population registers.
Crude Birth Rate refers to the ratio of the number of births to the
mid-year population during a certain period of time(usually
a year)which is often expressed in ‰.
Crude Death Rate refers to the ratio of the number of deaths to the
mid-year population during a certain period of time(usually
a year)which is often expressed in ‰.
Total Fertility Rate is the number of children
that would be born to a woman if she were to live to the end of her
childbearing years and bear children in accordance with current age-specific
fertility rates.
Marriage Rate are the number of legal(recognized)marriages
performed and registered per 1000 mid-year population which is often expressed
in ‰.
Divorce Rate are the number of legal(recognized)divorce
performed and registered per 1000 mid-year population which is often expressed
in ‰.
Life Expectancy at Birth Life expectancy at birth
indicates the number of years a newborn infant would live if prevailing
patterns of mortality at the time of its birth were to stay the same throughout
its life.
